Embrace Scandi Style for a Cosy Christmas

Christmas is headed our way and at Real Flame, we can’t wait. It is easily one of the cosiest times of the year. The dark nights are upon us, the temperature is dropping, we’re all wrapped up in our hats and scarves, and our favourite time of the day is coming home to light our fire and curl up in front of it with a glass of something warm and a good book. Even better if we’ve got a thick blanket thrown over us and the Christmas lights are twinkling too.

A lot of our customers mention to us that they’re looking to embrace Scandi style in their homes and we can see why – it looks great! So, what are our top tips for achieving this stylish look?

Natural Textures and Colours

Essentially, Scandi style is very rustic and simple. It involves integrating a lot of natural textures and colours, soft and cosy fabrics, and homely touches to create an authentic aesthetic. With winter upon us, Scandi style is about turning your living room into the perfect hibernation spot. Think cable-knit cushions, soft faux fur blankets, and thick rugs. You may want to add a garland to your fireplace made from pine cones sprayed in gold or add a star above your fireplace made out of twigs with fairy lights wrapped around it.

Festive Trees and Pine Aromas

Typically a Scandi style room will have a real tree, which will give off plenty of deliciously festive pine smells. You can add to this with a pine-scented or forest pine candle. Make sure your tree has a frosted theme too – fake snow sprays can really help to add to this. On your Christmas tree, your decorations should be earthy in their tones – lots of whites, browns, beiges and golds for a natural feel.

Make your Own Gifts

For a truly cosy Scandi Christmas, you may want to try making your gifts by hand. You can buy cute little brown gift boxes online and add homemade name cards and decorations. Twine makes a great bow and you can use hessian too for extra decoration. Your wrapping paper will look most in keeping with the room if it is brown, such as with parcel wrapping. You can add extra glamour with some stylish ribbons wrapped around them and some mistletoe tied into the bow.

Bring the Outdoors Inside

Scandi style is very much about pairing natural materials alongside neutral colours. It is also about bringing the outdoors into the home in an authentic and genuine way. You may choose to hang foliage along your mantlepiece and cabinets or make your Christmas stockings out of natural materials such as hessian or cotton.

A Burning Fire and a Stocked Log Basket

Make sure your log basket is fully stacked up with perfectly chopped logs. No Scandi Christmas is complete without a burning fire taking centre stage. This is the ultimate way of making it a room you’ll never want to leave with a luxurious, sumptuous and welcoming feel to it. Make sure there are plenty of spaces to relax around it, from sumptuous sheepskin rugs and thick blankets to wool bean bags. Surrounded by tea lights, it will feel like heaven.
